"We Are Animal" series
This sculpture is a reclining mountain lion that physically cries. Behind the large cat are three church window frames. The window silhouettes provide viewers with symbols representing Christian spiritual spaces. An apparition of a person or a thing is an immaterial appearance that seems real and is generally startling in its manifestation. The figure relates to Virgin Mary statues that have reportedly wept in places including Israel, the United States, and Japan. Many societies have utilized feline icons as metaphors to express human qualities and symbolize human relations. My work continues this lineage.
